Dent Blanche - South Ridge | 14
- 17.7.2006 (S. Mansikka, K. Blair)
After having climbed Zinal Rothorn Kurt
and I took the high route over Col Durand which
makes a great passage from Grand Mountet Hut
to Schönbiel Hut. Dent Blanche is a big
and remote mountain so after one night spent
in Schönbiel Hut we got just a bit closer
to our objective by making it to Cabane de la
Dent Blanche the next day. By coincidence the
Hut Warden and her nepalese assistant had been
on Ama Dablam at the same time previous autumn
and were now planning a trip to Everest in 2007.
Season was getting on and it was weekend so
we where not to start the route alone the next
morning. Slightly cloudy morning ended up being
one of the most beautiful ones I have ever seen.
The climb itself was uneventful and enjoyable
and we made it good time back to the hut. We
had gotten to the hut by the Wandfluelucke route
and wanted to try the alternative way going
to the Schonbiel Hut over the glacier via Tete
Blanche. As a result of unusually warm nights
the glacier was in awful condition not to mention
the shere length of the route. Unlike we had
planned we did not continue to Zermatt the same
night but stayed at the hut to heel our sore
bodies.
