LE FIL A PLOMB, ROGNON DU PLAN / AIGUILLE DU MIDI

Climbed Le Fil a Plombed (TD-, III, 4+, M4, 700m.) on Rognon du Plan’s North face on March 14th. This typically is very good time of year for the route but as season had been dry here the route had a lot less ice than normal. The first ice-step f.ex. had not formed at all but it was easily passed from it’s left. Crux (WI4, 70-85°, 40m) was difficult to put pro in as it was very thin ice.
Very easy getting there. Take a cable-car from Chamonix to to Plan de l’Aiguille (14 €) and walk (1hr) to the base of the route. Tracks if it’s been climbed. If it hasn’t, it’s probably not in condition. Don’t get mixed with the seemingly more obvious Col du Plan Gully but rather aim left from the top of the funnel. Easy route-finding with pitons and slings at stands. Ice-screws and a couple small camalots for pro.
From Rognon du Plan, follow Midi-Plan Traverse (or Plan-Midi in this case) to Aiguille du Midi. Do not rappel from the obvious-looking rappel station taking you 60 meters down on the glacier to your left when looking towards Aiguille du Midi.
Le Fil a Plomb on Camp to Camp.
Kiivettiin Jussin kanssa Le Fil a Plomb (TD-, III, 4+, M4, 700m.) Rognon du Planin pohjoisseinällä 14.3.2014. Yleensä hyvässä kunnossa tähän vuodenaikaan, mutta nyt kuivan talven jäljiltä jäätä oli huomattavan vähän. Ensimmäinen jääputous ei ollut muodostunut laisinkaan, vaan se kierrettiin vasemmalta (helppo). Etenkin kruksissa (WI4, 70-85°, 40m.) jään ohkaisuus haittasi sen varmistamista.
Helppo tavoittaa Chamonix:sta! Hissillä Aiguille du Midin Plan de l’Aiguille -väliasemalle (14 €) ja sieltä polkua seuraillen reitin juurelle. Helposti navigoitava reitti, kunhan et lähde startissa Col du Plan Gullyyn, vaan tähtäät vasemmalle. Ständeissä pitoneita ja slingejä. Varmistamiseen jääruuveja ja muutama pieni camu.
Topista seuraile Midi-Plan Traverssia Midille. Harjanteella laskeutumisankkuri, jolta pääsee 60m jäätikölle. Älä laskeudu, vaan pysy harjanteella!
